  • NOVEMBER 18, 1998
  • THE ARTISTS FORUM’s inaugural venture came in the fall of 1998 during the gala ceremony at the United Nations for the “Cast The Sleeping Elephant Trust”, held Wednesday, November 18, 1998 at the United Nations Complex in New York. United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan presided over the event, along with international dignitaries and American legends Isaac Hayes and Ossie Davis. During the outdoor ceremony, a life-sized bronze elephant cast, created by sculptor Mihail, was dedicated to the United Nations from the Republics of Kenya, Namibia, and the Kingdom of Nepal, and was installed in the UN Garden. The international new age duo, Bowers & Samay were invited to perform during the reception of “Cast The Sleeping Elephant Trust”.   In honor of the event, Bowers & Samay, with invited special guests, dedicated and performed their latest song entitled “Let’s Try It Again”, a selection from their work-in-progress, Future Vision.  Acting as publicist and A&R for Bowers & Samay, THE ARTISTS FORUM produced their CD package (illustrated by Rafael Ortiz), and compiled a special VIP guest list for the occasion.
EYE HEALTH SCREENINGS

THE ARTISTS FORUM’s Eye Health Initiative is a free medical screening to benefit uninsured and under-insured artists.

The screenings are conducted by the Kress Vision Program, an affiliate of NYU Downtown Hospital. A doctor and assistant will provide on-site non-invasive internal and external eye examinations, vision and glasses check-ups, and glaucoma testings. Uninsured artists are also eligible for additional follow up eye care assistance. A donation of $5 is suggested to benefit THE ARTISTS FORUM.

With a focus on all aspects of an artists’ life, THE ARTISTS FORUM offers special pro-active health event initiatives, such as our biannual eye health screenings conducted by the Kress Vision Program of NYU Downtown Hospital, as well as mental health counseling, conducted at many of our live events by The Essential Provider; a group of therapists who specialize in managing the stresses encountered by artists and entertainment professionals.  Our latest initiative, breast cancer & cervical screenings, is hosted by the American Cancer Society, in collaboration with the Manhattan Breast Health Partnership.  All providers are licensed to practice in the state of New York.
