INTERVIEW
Please describe your artistic themes
I like creating films about human dynamics, whether that is power dynamics or someone’s dynamic with their own subconscious. I like films that feel human, that live inside the main characters’ experience. I hope to be a driver of empathy, putting the audience inside situations that they might not otherwise be inside.
Please describe your creative process
I write when I have to, but I really prefer to work alongside talented writers to co-create a world to tell a story and then once we have a story, I prefer to work very collaboratively with all members of my crew and cast. I view filmmaking as a team sport and really pride myself on creating products that everyone involved can be really proud of. .
What are your artistic goals? What do you need to achieve them?
I am currently fundraising my first feature film which is an indie dramedy about grief, loneliness and finding unlikely community in strangers. That is really where all my focus is at the moment and we are actively working towards making that a reality.
What are your views on the industry?
The industry is constantly shifting and changing, and has been since it’s inception. I think it’s a lot of people’s instinct to jump ship when things get hard, but storytelling is a cornerstone of humanity and I think our industry will always hold strong and be an important part of creating human connection and humanity.
What advice would you give to emerging artists?
Make anything and everything you can. The only real way to learn in this industry is to do, and to not be afraid of failing or things going wrong, because that’s sometimes the best part of the whole process and can get you very far towards your goals. This is not a perfection business, its an effort and confidence business.
