NEW YORK, NY (December 14, 2010) THE ARTISTS FORUM , a NY State 501(c)3 not-for-profit multi-arts service organization, proudly announces the winners of its first ever juried photography competition, THE ARTISTS FORUM INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

This year’s task was to challenge artists to show interpretations for the word “captivate” using whichever photographic expression they preferred. The competition is open to artists worldwide and seeks to:

  • •Engage artists by challenging them to present their best work for juried selection.
  • •Provide much needed exposure for under-served artists by showcasing their work to the public.
  • •Enhance artist communications and business contacts.

The competition offers artists a chance to have their work critiqued by some of the art world’s most influential professionals, and win valuable prizes and  opportunities!

Winning entries will be promoted to industry personnel and the public-at-large via an array of media avenues.  Winning artists will also be eligible to receive private mentoring sessions from industry leaders and included in a special AF published annual.

ADAM BOUSKA

American fashion photographer Adam Bouska is best known for his intriguing pictures of male models, and is considered a rising ‘superstar’ photographer in the gay community. His work has been published in DNA Magazine, reFRESH Magazine, and several major industry websites, such as amazon.com and tenpercent.com. Most recently, Adam has received critical acclaim for his work with Tyra Bank’s reality show “America’s Next Top Model”, featuring shoots with Bre Scullark, Amanda Babin, and Michelle Babin. KARL GIANT:

 Karl’s exceptional imagination and unique visual style reach audiences in a range of mediums. Whether he is photographing album and magazine covers or directing music videos. In June 2007, Karl took on television – He appeared on TLC’s eight-part documentary series “A Model Life”.  Karl’s work has appeared in the world’s top publications including: W Magazine, WWD, InStyle, Vanity Fair, Allure, Elle, Interview Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Paper and Italian Vogue, Town & Country and Cosmopolitan. He was the lead artist for Mercedes-Benz Los Angeles Fashion week for an unprecedented three seasons. He has worked with many top brands including Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana and Christian Dior as numerous others.  Karl is the director of Ultra Natès number one smash hit Automatic. He is currently producing a documentary on plastic surgery and compiling a book of his photography.  He lives in New York City.

MICHAEL GRECCO

Michael Grecco is one of the top photographers in the world who has created iconic portraits of the most recognized entertainment stars, recently Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Will Ferrell, Penelope Cruz and Teri Hatcher. His award-winning work is seen in trendsetting magazines such as Esquire, Time, Entertainment Weekly and Maxim. He has also photographed authors and scientists, skateboarders and musicians, and the locals he meets in his travels around the country. He is author of the best-selling photographer’s guide Lighting and the Dramatic Portrait: The Art of Celebrity and Editorial Photography. As one of Canon’s “Explorers of Light,” his lectures on photography are wildly popular and he has been profiled in virtually all key photographic trade journals. He lives and works in Santa Monica, California.

LOU MANNA

Lou Manna is an award winning Olympus Visionary photographer whose work has appeared in national ad campaigns, major magazines, and more than thirty cookbooks.  After shooting for the New York Times from 1975 to 1990, he went on to establish his own Fifth Avenue studio, where he works with corporate, advertising and restaurant clients to create photos that can only be described as exquisite. Lou recently authored his first book, DIGITAL FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY, the only book on the art of food photography devoted exclusively to digital technology. The book discusses in detail how to select the best cameras and accessories for your needs, shooting for different clients, principles of composition and lighting; working with factors such as selective focus; texture; and color temperature; digital storage media; and much more. The blog will contain interesting tips and tricks when shooting various foods, behind the scene photos to see how to take that irresistible mouth-watering shot.

JEFFREY GALVEZO SALES

Originally from Washington DC, Jeffrey Galvezo Sales studied photography at the San Francisco Art Institute and the School of Visual Arts in New York City.  After graduation, Jeffrey moved to Paris, France, where he found work as a photographic assistant before eventually branching out on his own.  His fashion and beauty work has appeared in numerous international magazines such as Spoon, Tetu, German Vogue, Issue One, and Herald Tribune.  His celebrity portrait works  include: Vanessa Paradis, Veruschka, Lenny Kravitz and Liza Minelli.  Jeffrey is based in Paris.

MICHAEL ZIDE

Michael joined Hallmark Institute in 2004 after a successful career in commercial and wedding photography. After graduating from the University of Southern California, Michael moved to New England. On Martha’s Vineyard Island, Michael taught the art of black and white landscape photography while creating a body of work that has been featured in galleries from New York City to Los Angeles. His landscape work from the Vineyard and Western U.S. is in private, corporate, and museum collections. Commercial clients include Polaroid, Sinar Bron, Schneider Lens, Millers Professional Imaging, Graphistudios and Newsweek, to name a few. Recently he was selected to the “Legion of Honor” by the Moab fine art printing paper company. Michael’s landscape work has been widely published in such magazines as Black and White, Silvershotz, Today’s Photographer, and Photo/Design. Now living in Amherst, MA, he continues to freelance commercially and shoots weddings for select clients while sharing his experience with aspiring Hallmark students.
